Meet the New Jersey Express Team
Rich Smith, Founder
Rich has been involved in the sport of field hockey for almost 15 years--first as a junior varsity coach for a year at Westwood Regional High School, then as a varsity coach for six years at Westwood. He presently serves as the head coach for Northern Highlands Regional High School in Allendale, NJ. Rich took Westwood to the County Tournament final in 2001 and was voted Bergen County Coach of the Year in 2000. Rich has been involved at the club level for ten years, taking a team to the US Field Hockey Association's National Festival since 1998. Rich also has ten years experience running all aspects of indoor leagues, including scheduling, officiating, and promotion. Rich is excited about taking the sport of field hockey to a new level and expanding it into schools that have not yet experienced the fun of the sport. |
Koen Denissen, U19 Head Coach
Through an interesting contact I got introduced to Rich. After an energized and inspired meeting with Rich we decided it would be a great way to move his NJ Express field hockey organization forward by adding me to his team as a senior coach. Having spent 14 years as a coach and trainer in The Netherlands, including leading the Dutch national Junior Team to the European Championships both indoor and outdoor and giving masterclasses to Olympic athletes, I am excited to have New Jersey Express be the first coaching experience after moving to the US just months ago. I will be excited to meet athletes ready to come out for the challenge of trying to be an Olympian. |
Tiffany Shenman, U19 Goalkeeper Coach
Tiffany has been involved with the sport of field hockey for 20 years. Growing up in Far Hills, NJ, she became a goalkeeper while playing for Far Hills Country Day School. She went on to play for The Pingry School, where she attained All-State honors and was named "Player of The Year". Tiffany attended Moravian College and played on their field hockey squad for 4 years. During her senior year, she broke out of the pads and became a field player for the first time in her career! She has coaching stints at Westwood Regional High School (assistant coach), West Essex High School (volunteer goalkeeper coach), Demarest High School (freshman coach), and Stevens College, where she gained collegiate coaching experience. Tiffany presently works with the goalkeepers from the Northern Highlands and Old Tappan squads on a part-time basis. She has traveled to the National Field Hockey Festival in 2001, 2002, 2007, and is excited to go again in 2008.
